Ruwit Hilal Committee meeting was held in Karachi today
KARACHI - Central Route Hilal Committee Chairman Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman will hold a meeting in Karachi today to celebrate the month of Ramadan 1441 AH 144.
According to media reports, zonal and district monitoring committees will also meet in their respective areas to gather evidence related to or beyond the moon.
The Meteorological Department had earlier predicted that the current holy month of Ramadan would last for 30 days, adding that Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to fall on May 25.
Following the Meteorological Department's forecast, the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ruwit Hilal Committee are facing this important issue.
According to the Meteorological Department, the month of Ramadan can last up to 30 days. The moon of Shawwal is shown on May 24 instead of May 23. Thus, Eid-ul-Fitr is being celebrated on May 25 across the country.
Earlier, Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry had claimed that Shawwal Moon would be discussed in national institutions on May 23 on the appearance of Eid-ul-Fitr moon.
In a private TV show on Thursday, Fawad Chaudhry claimed that Pakistan, like other countries, would celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday (May 24).
He said that according to the calendar compiled by the Ministry of Science, Eid would be celebrated across the country this year.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia is celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr tomorrow (Sunday), because the moon of Shawwal is not visible in the kingdom.
